Ways to Protect Yourself

In today’s digital world, scammers are constantly finding new ways to trick individuals into giving up their personal and financial information. At Minnco Credit Union, we prioritize your security and want to help you recognize and avoid potential threats. By staying informed and taking proactive steps—such as verifying websites and apps, enabling multi-factor authentication, using strong passwords, and limiting personal information sharing—you can better protect yourself from fraud. Read on for essential tips to safeguard your accounts and ensure your financial security.


 

Websites & Apps

Scammers will often direct you to a fake website to steal your personal information. Always ensure that you are visiting our official website. Our official website is always www.minnco.com. Any other sites (minnco.net, minnco.org, or other domains) are fraudulent.

Similarly, always ensure you only download our official mobile app, Minnco Mobile from the Apple App Store or Google Play. 

Limit Personal Information Sharing

Avoid posting sensitive information, such as birthdate, address, and phone number on social media. Scammers collect this information to steal your identity and manipulate you into scams. To keep this information safe, review and adjust your privacy settings on social media. 

Don't provide account details. This includes your PINs, account numbers, social security number, and digital banking login.

Unless you initiate contact and confirm that the source is reliable, do not give personal information over the phone.

Enable Multi-Factor Authentication

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is a security process that requires users to verify their identity using two or more distinct methods. If you log in on a separate device or do not register your device, you must have your identity confirmed either by phone, email, or by an authenticator. This provides members with an added layer of security.


Strengthen Your Passwords & Use a Password Manager

Create strong passwords that use a combination of letters (both upper and lowercase), numbers, and symbols. Use different passwords for different accounts; don’t use the same password for all of your accounts. Consider a password manager to store and generate strong passwords.

Text Messages & Links

Minnco will never call, email or text you to ask for your login information. Never provide personal information, debit card or account details or digital banking credentials in response to text messages or emails.

Monitor Financial & Online Accounts

Be regularly checking all of your financial and online accounts for any activity that is not from you. This includes bank statements, credit reports, and accounts. Set up alerts so that you are notified for login attempts and large transactions. If they are not from you, call Minnco immediately and we will freeze your account.
